Who can use the service

Who can use the service?

To be able to join the Housing Register you must be eligible to apply, be aged 18 or over (or have a statutory duty for housing for those aged 16/17), and be in at least one of the following categories:

  • have a local connection to South Gloucestershire  - a local connection is defined one or more of  the following: 

         - living here continuously for at least the last two years,

         - having close family members who have lived in South Gloucestershire for the last five years,

         - have permanent employment in South Gloucestershire,

         - or having a special reason to live here

  • be a member of the regular armed forces, or ex services personnel, a bereaved spouse or civil partner or a seriously injured reservist
  • Gypsy/travellers with no local connection looking for a pitch on a South Gloucestershire traveller site ONLY can also apply to the housing register.

Who cannot use the service?

You cannot use this service unless you have completed an application form on the housing register.

There are also some people who by law are not eligible to apply for housing. They are:

  • Certain people who are subject to Immigration Control under the 1996 Asylum and Immigration Act
  • Certain people from abroad who are not subject to immigration control but who are not habitually resident in the UK, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland
